This paper analyzes the evolution of the regional distribution of the Spanish population during the period 1955-93. After reviewing the stylized facts and the relevant literature, we undertake an empirical analysis of the regional dynamics of the population within the framework of a dynamic model adapted from the recent growth literature. Although the analysis must be considered preliminary in certain respects, the results point toward a possibly important revision of prevailing views on the degree of mobility of the population and on the determinants of migration flows.

Keywords: regional migration, amenities, equilibrium vs. disequilibrium migration models.
